Dolphins Manager, Stanley Eguma has revealed that he is worried about the safety of his players ahead of tomorrow’s Glo Premier League game against El Kanemi Warriors.

The Port Harcourt-based club had raised an alarm earlier on with its media department quoting an unnamed player of the squad saying they do not want to travel to Maiduguri, venue for the game against El Kanemi because they feared for their lives with Boko Haram sect killing innocent people in the north.

“We are reading the local papers here in Gombe and even the governor of Borno State has said anyone plying that route (from Gombe to Maiduguri) is on his own, so why are they insisting that we go?

“Or is our commissioner (Fred Igwe) not aware of the killings on that road? We do not want to go for the match. We will lose anyway, so why risk our lives,” the defender said.

Eguma has now confirmed that they are scared while insisting that they only agreed to travel after they were assured of adequate security when they embark on the trip to Gombe.

“We have been in Gombe for a few days now and the Commissioner of Police in Gombe State graciously agreed to provide us with adequate security that will follow us to Maiduguri for the game,” Eguma told supersport.com.
