Nigeria’s President Goodluck Jonathan, and the Baraje-led faction of the People’s Democratic Party agreed on Monday to reschedule a meeting aimed at resolving conflicts that have led to factionalisation of Nigeria’s ruling party till after the Muslim Hajj and Christian pilgrimage.
This was the outcome of the meeting held today at the presidential villa as confirmed to journalists by Governors Babangida Aliyu of Niger and Liyel Imoke of Cross River State.
The governors told reporters that the meeting was cordial but “resolved that the meetings be reconvened shortly after the Muslim hajj and Christian pilgrimages are concluded.”
Addressing state house correspondents after the meeting, Imoke and Aliyu said the the parties to the conflict still stand on their resolution of September 15, and are committed to the resolution of their differences.
According to them, the governors also agreed to continue to take steps towards implementing the resolutions agreed to at the previous meetings.
The governors said “sequel to the meeting held on the 15th of September and in line with the agreements reached at the meeting, the governors met with the President, Vice President and the Chairman of the board of trustees, with apologies from the Governors of Jigawa, Sokoto and Adamawa, who had traveled for the Hajj.
Others who were in attendance are Kwara State governor, Abdulfatah Ahmed, Rivers State goevernor, Rotimi Amaechi, Kano State governor, Rabiu Kwankwanso, Kogi State governor, Idris Wada, Akwa Ibom state governor, Godswill Akpabio and Katsina State governor, Ibrahim Shema among others.
