Cook Arraigned Over Theft Of N50.7m Jewellery, Milk

A 50-year-old Nigerian cook, Jeremiah Gou, was on Tuesday charged before an Igbosere Magistrate’s Court, Lagos, over alleged theft of jewellery and cartons of milk valued at N50.71 million.

The accused, who lives at Jeremiah Ugwu Street, Road 47, Lekki Phase 1, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and theft.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Emby Ingobu, told the court that the accused committed the offences on 25 September at the estate.

He alleged that the accused stole jewellery and 350 cartons of milk, all valued at N50.71 million, property of Mrs Taibat Olanrenwaju.

According to Ingobu, the offences contravene Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Gou, however, pleaded not guilty of the offences.

The Magistrate, Mr I.O. Omotosho, granted the accused bail in the sum of N300,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The case was adjourned till 6 November for trial.
