The western Nigerian state of Ekiti State has postponed till next year a sports festival scheduled for next month.
The state Sports Council on Tuesday said that the state government was short of funds.
The General Manager of the council, Olukayode Adewunmi, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Ado-Ekiti, that the postponement was at the instance of Governor Kayode Fayemi.
“The state governor, Kayode Fayemi, said the postponement is to allow for adequate preparation and funding to ensure the success of the event,’’ Adewunmi said.
He said the state’s Commissioner for Youths and Sports, Mr. Kayode Olaosebikan, had set up the Main Organising Committee to evaluate the expenses for the festival.
Adewunmi gave an assurance that the council would host the festival next year with the support of the state government.
