There are indications that Feyi Agagu, the son of the late former Governor of Ondo State, and his in-law, Femi Akinsanya, may be flown abroad for further treatment after they were discharged from the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, LASUTH, on Tuesday night.

They were undergoing treatment after narrowly surviving a plane crash last Thursday in Lagos, western Nigeria.

P.M.NEWS gathered that they were discharged on Tuesday night after doctors certified them fit, but it was learnt that they asked the management of the hospital to discharge them to enable them seek further medical treatment abroad.

They were said to have left the hospital on Wednesday night despite the fact that they were discharged on Tuesday night.

Sources in the hospital said Feyi and Akinsanya could now sit and stand unaided, saying that the hospital had to discharge them following their request.

A medical personnel, who pleaded for anonymity, said: “I was about leaving the ward on Tuesday night after I closed from work when they demanded to be discharged. I was told the family had sought permission of LASUTH management to discharge them to enable them fly the survivors out of the country for treatment overseas. So, they were discharged.

“But some of us were surprised to see them on Wednesday morning when we resumed duty. Initially, we were amazed when they insisted that we should discharge them because they needed further treatment abroad,” the source added.

One the personnel who also attended to Feyi and Akinsanya  frequently at their private ward, said they would have left the hospital premises but their travel documents could not be processed on time.

“So, they had to wait pending the time their travel logistic abroad is perfected. They may move anytime from now (Wednesday evening), or Thursday morning.

“We have been very busy today (Wednesday) at the various wards, the examination exercise of nurses is ongoing, but to the best of my knowledge they have been discharged since Tuesday night. I am sure they are making moves to perfect their travel abroad. I think that’s why they are still in the private ward,” a source said.

Head, Surgical Emergency Unit at LASUTH, Dr. Mustapha confirmed that Feyi and Femi had been discharged from the hospital as they were certified fit, saying that the remaining female victim in LASUTH might also be discharged this week.

“They were seven survivors initially, but three of them are with us now: a lady and two male victims. The two male in the private ward have been discharged. The woman is ok and she might be discharged this week,” he said.

Feyi Agagu and Femi Akinsanya were among the 20 people on board when the Associated Airline plane conveying the body of Dr. Olusegun Agagu from Lagos to Ondo State crashed.

Thirteen people died during the crash, while two of the seven survivors died days later at the hospital.
