Croatian, Slovakian Stars Land In Finals

Croatian and Slovakian players will play in the finals of the first leg of 13th Governor’s Cup Lagos Tennis on Saturday.

The final match in the Men’s Singles will be played between Ante Pavic and Borna Covic both from Croatia, while the Women’s Singles will be a straight fight between two compatriots from Slovakia, top seed Tadeja Majeric and Dalila Jakupovic.

To qualify for the final which will be played by 3pm at the Lagos Lawn Tennis Club, Onikan on Saturday, Majeric defeated 7th seed Naomi Broady in 3-6,7-6(3),6-4 game, while. Jakupovic beat last year’s winner Cristina Dinu in straight set of 7-5,6-2.

In the Men’s Singles, Coric, the world’s number 1 junior player, who is in Lagos for the first time, defeated South African Ruan Roelofse 6-4,4-6,6-2, while Pavic beat Andre Gaspar Murta in straight set of 6-2,6-4.

Speaking ahead of the final match against his compatriot, Pavic,  Coric said: “I have known Ante for a very long time because we come from the same country. I must confess that he is a great players, but I’ve the confident that I can beat him in the final because this is tennis where anybody can win. I hope and I’m looking forward to winning the final on Saturday.”
