Man Faces N180m Fraud Charge

A 48-year old man, Eneyi Ogosi, was on Friday in Lagos charged with N180 million fraud at an Ikeja Chief Magistrates’ Court.

The accused, who resides in Surulere area of Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy and stealing.

The prosecution said the accused with others still at large committed the offence sometime in 2012 in Surulere.

ASP Barth Nwaokoye alleged that the accused sold off 43 plots of land at Majidun in Ikorodu, valued at N130 million and converted the money to his personal use.

In addition, he said the accused, who was an employee of the owner of the property, the late Stafford Obrutse, also withdrew N50 million from his accounts.

The offences, he noted, contravened Sections 285 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

Ogosi, however, pleaded not guilty of the offence.

Ruling on the bail application of the accused, the Chief Magistrate, Mrs Eniola Fabamwo, granted him bail in the sum of N200,000 with two sureties in like sum.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the accused, if found guilty, may be sentenced to a minimum of three years imprisonment.

The magistrate adjourned the case till  25 November for mention.
