Woman Jailed For Buying Stolen Blocks

A Grade 1 Area Court in Kuje, FCT, on Monday sentenced a 31-year old business woman, Mary Ajayi, to three months imprisonment for buying stolen blocks.

The presiding judge, Mr Nuhu Ibrahim, said the convict was guilty as charged and sentenced her to three months’ imprisonment with an option to pay N10,000 fine.

“Ajayi pleaded guilty to buying 161 stolen blocks from Mr Suleiman Lawal and she is hereby convicted of committing the offence.”

Ajayi, who had no counsel, had pleaded guilty to the charge against her and begged the court for leniency.

She was arraigned on one-count charge of receiving stolen property, contrary to Section 316 of the Penal Code.

The police prosecutor, Cpl. Samuel Ocheche, had told the court that Mr Emmanuel Dung of Nuwalege village, Kuje, reported the matter at the Kuje Police Station on 17 October.

Ocheche said that Ajayi, a resident of Gosa, Airport road, Abuja, bought the blocks from Lawal at N30 each as against the normal price of N180 per block.
