Amaechi: police withdraw security from major aides

Okafor Ofiebor /Port Harcourt

Despite the withdrawal last night of Policemen attached to Tony Okocha, the Chief of Staff to Governor Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State, the State Command has denied the action.

However, Okocha, insisted that the security details attached to his house and that of the Secretary to the State Government, had been withdrawn.

Mr Ahmad Muhammad, who is the Police Command Public Relations Officer and a Deputy Superintendent of police, told the newsmen in Port Harcourt that the command did not take such action.

According to him; “It is not true. We (Police), did not withdraw their security details and I cannot say more than this.”

“Security details under the Special Protection Unit attached to my house and that of the Secretary to the State Government have been withdrawn. As I speak, no reason was given for the action and we are now left with only one police orderly each, Okocha maintained.

“Nobody has contacted the state government to give reasons for the action and we were not given prior notice,’’ he said.

Okocha said the action of the police portends danger for some senior government officials as they do not have security details to guard them.
