2 Suspected Car Snatchers Sent To Jail

An Ibadan Chief Magistrates’ Court on Friday remanded two men, Iyanda Dauda and Idris Tirimisiyu, at Agodi Prisons for allegedly snatching a Toyota Picnic car valued at N1.5 million at gunpoint.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs Risikat Ebeloku-Mustapha, said the accused should remain behind bars pending legal advice from the State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP).

Dauda, 32, and Idris Tirimisiyu, 27, are facing a two-count offence bordering on armed robbery.

The police prosecutor, James Oriola, told the court that the two accused with others still at large committed the offences on 23 August at 3.20 p.m. at 1, Dominion Lane, off Ologun-Eru Road, Ibadan.

He alleged that Iyanda and Tirimisiyu, who were armed with guns, robbed a woman of her Toyota Picnic car with registration no. KTU 494 AE, valued at N1.5 million.

According to Oriola, the stolen car contained a gallon of engine oil, a roll of carpet, a bed sheet, foodstuffs, a mobile phone and N27, 000, property of Mrs Vivian Nwaka.

He noted that the offences contravened Sections 1 (2), (a), (b) and 6 (b) of Robbery and Firearms (Special Provisions) Act, Laws of the Federation, 2004.

The case was adjourned till 27 November for mention.
