Guard Jailed For Stealing Catholic Priest’s Money
An Abuja Senior Magistrates’ Court sitting in Zone 2 Wuse on Friday sentenced a security guard, Anthony Ogacha, to three months imprisonment for stealing a cleric’s money.
Senior Magistrate Aminu Eri sentenced Ogacha after he pleaded guilty to stealing N721, 340 from Rev. Fr. Aloy Udo of St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, Lugbe, Abuja.
Eri did not give the guard an option of fine.
He ordered Ogacha to pay back the money.
Earlier, the prosecutor, Cpl. Paul Anigbo, told the court that Ogacha stole the money when he was on duty on 21 October at the clergyman’s residence in Federal Housing Authority Estate, Lugbe.
He said that during police investigation into the theft, Ogacha said that he gave the money to a man he simply identified as David to double it for him.
Anigbo said that David was still at large.
The prosecutor said that the offence contravened Section 289 of the Penal Code.
