Hospitals rejecting accident victims to face sanctions

Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Commission (FRSC) has threatened to sanction any hospital that refuses to attend to accident victims, especially during its `Ember Months’ patrol.

The FRSC Benin Zonal Commanding Officer, (ZCO), Mr Nseobong Akpabio, said this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Monday in Benin.

Akpabio, whose command comprises Edo, Delta and Anambra, said that the command had on Friday begun a 24-hour patrol code-named “Operation Octopus”, which would run for 15 days.

He named the corridors to include the Benin-Asaba, Benin-Auchi and Onitsha-Owerri expressways, “where FRSC officials are also expected to carry out aggressive public enlightenment’’.

Akpabio said that trained FRSC medical personnel and five ambulances would be on standby to attend to emergency situations.

‘And I want to say that FRSC will sanction any hospital that rejects and refuses to attend to accident victims,’’ he said.

The FRSC boss warned road users, especially motorists, to avoid seat belt violation, speeding and dangerous driving, saying that “we will set up mobile courts along these corridors to try erring motorists”. (NAN)
