Oduahgate: Police Arrest Melaye, search office

Dino Melaye, a former member of the Nigerian House of Representatives and executive secretary, Anti-Corruption Network, ACN, Dino Melaye, was on Monday arrested by a group of policemen in Abuja, the capital.

The reasonsfor the arrest of the former lawmaker has not been made public as at the time of writing this story, but it was believed that it may be related to the recent protest he led against the purchase of two armoured cars for Minister of Aviation, Stella Oduah at the cost of N255 million by the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority, NCAA.

Altiene Daniel, Public Relations Officer of Federal Capital Territory, FCT Police Command told P.M. NEWS that Melaye was arrested following some complaints against him, but would not elaborate on the specific complaints or the complainant.

She also refused to say when the former lawmaker will be released.

P.M. NEWS however learnt that Melaye was arrested by police officers led by one Patrick Ejoh, an Assistant Superintendent of Police, and later taken to the Federal Capital Territory, FCT, Police Command located in Garki II District of Abuja.

The police officers had displayed a warrant which indicated that the former lawmaker was being arrested for “criminal intimidation and threat to life.”

The warrant also indicated that Melaye would be charged to court on Tuesday.

It was also leant that the office of the anti-corruption crusader were ransacked by the Policemen.

Melaye was arrested briefly at the Eagles Square, Abuja when he and members of his ACN, an anti-corruption group, were protesting against the purchase of the two armoured cars said to be at highly inflated price by NCAA.

The protesters had demanded an investigation of the car scandal; as well as Oduah’s resignation. They also threatened to go to court if the minister did not resign in 72 hours.
