The Nigerian police in the northwestern state of Sokoto on Sunday declared that it had yet to ascertain the whereabouts of Alhaji Abu Dakure, a Sokoto-based business tycoon, who was kidnapped by unknown persons.

Dankure was kidnapped by unknown persons last Wednesday in Sokoto.

The spokesman of the police command, Al-Mustapha Sani, said the command was, however, monitoring the situation “very keenly.

“We are on top of the situation but the kidnappers have not made any call as yet; there is nothing about ransom for now,’’ he said.

“His (Dakure’s) GSM handsets are still off and the lines cannot be reached by anybody,’’ he said.

Sani, however, assured relations and anxious members of the public that the police were working round the clock to unravel the mystery behind the abduction of the businessman.

Alhaji Mamman Dangaladima, an elder brother to the abducted business mogul, who also spoke with NAN, said that prayers had been intensified for God’s intervention in the incident.

“We have prayed and shall continue to pray that God will bring him back in perfect peace,’’ he added.

Dangaladima, who noted that the abductors had not called family members or security agencies, expressed optimism that God would soon bring the family’s harrowing experience to an end.

NAN recalls that four unknown gunmen on Wednesday night seized Dankure around 9 p.m. at the Kupper neighbourhood of Sokoto, where he is constructing a new plaza.

His car, a Toyota Camry car, was, however, recovered by the police in a farmland near Durbawa village in Kware Local Government Area of the state.
