Tukur writes INEC on suspension of Oyinlola, others
The National Working Committee of Nigeria’s ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has written to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) notifying it of the suspension of Alhaji Abubakar Kawu Baraje, Dr. Sam Sam Jaja, Prince Olagunsoye Oyinlola and Amb. Ibrahim Kazaure from the Party.
The four chieftains of the ruling party who are members of a faction of the ruling party led by former Vice President Atiku Abubakar were suspended yesterday.
It was believed that the suspension was to prevent Oyinlola who was ordered to be reinstated to office as the National Secretary of the party from resuming office.
In a letter dated November 12, 2013 and signed by the National Chairman, Alhaji Dr. Bamanga Tukur, PDP informed INEC of the suspension of the four chieftains of new PDP on Monday, November 11, 2013 for engaging in anti-party activities in violation of the provisions of the PDP Constitution.
The party said the decision of the NWC was in exercise of its powers under section 57 (3) of the PDP constitution, 2012 (as amended) and in the overall interest of the Party and its members.
Meanwhile, one of the persons affected in Monday night suspension, Alhaji Kawu Baraje, has appealed to Nigerians to remain calm and steadfast.
Baraje, a former acting chairman of the party, made the plea in a statement he signed in IIorin.
According to him, there is no cause for alarm over his suspension from the party adding that he and and other suspended members would soon announce their next line of action
