Governor Peter Obi of the eastern Nigerian state of Anambra said on Monday that there was no rigging in the state governorship election held on 16 November.

Willie Obiano, who contested on the platform of All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, the same platform on which the Governor was elected is leading in the poll declared inconclusive by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.

“Let me tell you, in the election in Anambra State, I can go to anywhere as a Christian and tell you there was no rigging in the election. Those who wanted to rig were prevented from rigging and they are crying,” Govenor Obi told State House correspondent while asserting that he has no money to spend for rigging.

INEC has scheduled a supplementary election for the gubernatorial polls for 30 November.

But Obi told journalists that the APGA candidate will win the election if it is conducted 10 separate times. The Governor also affirmed that with the results so far declared, APGA is in a pole position to emerge victorious at the end of the day.

“The regulation, the rules of the law says that you have to win at least 25 per cent in two-thirds of the local governments. Only APGA can boast of that, we won in 18 local governments.

“The nearest, which is the Peoples Democratic Party, won in nine local governments, the All Progressives Congress won seven. And I can tell you that even those results they are shouting about their own are even more doubtful,” the Governor said.
