Father of Golden Eaglets’ star, James Iheanacho, has revealed why his son, Kelechi, has decided to sign for England’s Manchester City over other European clubs that showed interest in him.
Fans of the Most Valuable Player, MVP, of the 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup in UAE were shocked when they learned from reports that Iheanacho had agreed to play for Man. City despite the interest shown by Arsenal, Porto, Monaco and other top clubs.
Speaking this morning on a sports programme in Lagos, the senior Iheanacho said: “The Iheanacho family has agreed to allow our son to sign for Manchester City.
“Though we got several offers from other top clubs in Europe, we want Kelechi to join City because he is going to be a great player at the Etihad.
“He is a young boy and should be guided through this stage of his career. We held a discussion with him and the family members agreed on City and that is where my son will be going.”
Iheanacho’s inspirational performance in UAE where he scored six goals ensured that Nigeria won the trophy for a record fourth time.
