The results also showed that 16,988 votes were voided and valid votes were 425,254.

“To declare a winner, the candidate must score 25 per cent vote in two-third of local government; having satisfied this condition, Chief Willie Obiano is now returned winner, ” the Chief returning officer said.

The election, first on 16 November, was marred by irregularities, such as late arrival of materials and INEC personnel to polling centres, disenfranchisement of voters, especially in areas said to be stronghold of the APGA candidate’s opponents, mis-match of election materials to voting centres, non-supply of election result sheets, and others.

The irregularities spurred calls for the annulment of the election, not only by three of the major candidates, but also by the opposition APC.

But INEC insisted on validating the poll and conducted a supplementary election 30 November in 210 units where voting did not take place inn 16 November.

Yesterday’s supplementary election was boycotted by the APC, PDP and the Labour Party.
