I have not left APC, says Belgore

Stephen Oni,Ilorin

The governorship candidate of the defunct Action Congress of Nigeria,ACN,in the central Nigerian state of Kwara, Mohammed Dele Belgore, SAN, has debunked the rumour making the round that he has defected from the All Progressives Congress,APC, to another party.

ACN was one of the parties that merged to form APC.

Addressing his teeming supporters on Sunday 1 December in Ilorin, Belgore, who disclosed that there was a lot of apprehension about the entry of the People’s Democratic Party,PDP, G7 members into the APC and what it portends for the original members of the APC in the state, said there was “no need for apprehension,we remain members of APC,we are committed to APC”,pointing out, however, that the situation is dynamic and subject to review it as they go along.

He said:” We came into politics to fight oppression, change the status quo and rescue Kwara State from political and socio-economic bondage in the hands of a clique and broaden the scope so that the people would be free and enjoy the dividends of democracy.”

Belgore, who maintained that the issue is never about himself but the community whose interest he is protecting being the one that dragged him into politics to fight the noble cause, was unequivocal that the cause and stand cannot be compromised under any guise, adding that his supporters were disenchanted with the national leadership of the APC with the way the sensitive issue was being handled without carrying all the stakeholders along, particularly those, including himself, that nurtured the APC to this enviable height in the state.

Belgore shared the sentiment of the stakeholders of the APC in the state that while new members are welcomed into their fold at any point in time, they can’t in any way be overlord to those they met on ground.

On 2015,he said though there is tension in the land, the country would weather the storm without breaking up as being speculated while cautioning against the do or die politics being championed in certain quarters.
