Lagos denies suspending school principal over press report

The Lagos State Government on Sunday denied a newspaper report that the Principal of Ikeja Junior Grammar School, Mrs. Adesiyan Balogun has been suspended from office.

In a statement by the State Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Mr Lateef Ibirogba, the government insisted that at no time did it place the said Principal on suspension over a report on the lack of furniture in some classrooms in the school, leading to students sitting on the window panes and blocks to have their lessons.

The Commissioner affirmed that the said Principal was, in line with Lagos State Civil Service Rules, asked to explain the situation in her school to enable government assess the true position of things and she has since replied.

He added that Mrs Balogun is still an officer of the State Civil Service and the Principal of Ikeja Junior Grammar School, Oshodi, where she is expected to uphold the State’s high standard of education in the School.

He explained that the government has no reason to suspend the said Principal and assured Lagosians of the continued commitment of the administration to the provision of qualitative education in a conducive environment.
