Chess Federation Commends Nigeria Breweries Plc

Nigeria Chess Federation, NCF, has commended Nigeria Breweries Plc. for its support and sponsorship of International Open Chess Championship in the last few years to develop the sport in the country.

President of the federation, Mr. Adeyemi Lekan has said that the body really appreciates the company’s effort for what it has done as they prepare for the 36th NCF/NB Plc International Open Chess Championship which will hold from 12-15 December at Thomas-Okoya Multi-Purpose Sports Hall at Teslim Balogun Stadium, Surulere, Lagos.

He stated that “the chess federation is indeed grateful to Nigeria Breweries for continuing to be our best friend and partner in our task and desire to take chess in Nigeria to a greater height. With the company, we were able to discover talent who are world beaters in the game today.”

He said that the Nigeria Breweries Plc.’s support is making their dreams of establishing chess in other states come alive, saying that “we are happy with the company’s partnership and this has really encouraged us to continue to press forwards ours goal of establishing chess and its attendant culture in every Nigerian state, every home and every neighbourhood.

“Our partnership over the years is yielding fruits and has translated in more recent times with several of our players bagging International Master Titles and others with FIDE Master Titles, following their performance at recent International tournaments.”
