A Saudi Arabian cargo plane has overrun the runway in Abuja, the Nigerian capital and ran into a maintenance area of the airport, aviation sources said late on Wednesday night.
Sources said the Boeing 747 cargo aircraft burst into flames but fire was promptly put out at the airport.
Joe Obi, the spokesperson of Nigeria’s ministry of aviation, confirmed the incident but added that the plane landed safely.
He said: “A Saudi Arabian B747 cargo aircraft landed safely in Abuja this night but finished the maneuvering area of the runway and ran into a maintenance area of the runway and stopped. There are no casualties. Plans are on to move the air craft after the AIB’s visit soon.”
