•Al-Mustapha: dismisses Obasanjo's comments

Major Hamza Al-Mustapha, former chief security officer to Nigeria’s erstwhile maximum ruler, General Sani Abacha, on Monday faulted former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s opinion that President Goodluck Ebele Jonathan influenced his acquittal, for the murder of Kudirat Abiola, at the Appeal court.

Mustapha described the allegation as unwarranted.

The Lagos State Governnment has filed an appeal at the Supreme Court against the judgement of the Appeal Court.

AL-Mustapha expressed surprise that Obasanjo could make such insinuations in his controversial 18-page letter to President Jonathan, arguing that, after all, the case is still in Court.

He said before his discharge, he went through many “prosecutors’ inquest that are well scripted, with witnesses which are induced over the years, with so many unwarranted adjournments.”

Major Al-Mustapha recalled that he appeared before so many judges, adding that the content of the judgment given in the Court of Appeal speaks for itself. These are three well known Justices, whose background are well known.

‘’Today, they have looked at the prosecution case and know that they are contradictory to the provisions of the law in Nigeria and anywhere in the World. That has happened but the content of the letter is also in collision with the provisions of the law and that of the judgment of the Court of Appeal.

’To me, that speaks for itself from our laws of the land, including the constitution, then second is the allegation in itself, which I found at the first instance as a laughable thing. Second, it is most unfortunate, speculative and somebody else’s imagination but I have responded which I still stand by.’

Al-Mustapha told journalists that he was not in a hurry to venture into politics.
