A robbery gang leader, Samuel Mayegun, also known as Asiwaju, has allegedly confessed to the police that he got a share of N45 million from the Lagos Airport robbery attack that took place in February last year.

Mayegun allegedly made the confession after the Lagos State Police Command arrested him and four other suspects recently follwing the robbery attack at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos, southern Nigeria.

Some members of the team that carried out the robbery operation had earlier been arrested by a police team led by Chief Superintendent of Police, Abba Kyari.

The Command said the suspected gang leader was arrested in Ikorodu area of Lagos along with four other suspects.

Those arrested with the alleged gang leader include: Abiodun Adebayo, Ezekiel Anthony, Ibrahim Sado and Femi Osiyelu.

The police said that all five suspects were arrested at their hideout in Ikorodu after a tip off that they were planning another major robbery operation.

Items recovered from the suspects include one general purpose machine gun (GPMG), 1 AK47 rifle, 1 double barrel locally made pistol, 10 GPMG magazines, 8 AK47 magazines and 32 cartridges.

The police said they also recovered a Volkswagen vehicle with registration number BDG 155 AX from the gang.

Mayegun was also said to have confessed to have carried out other robbery operations both in Lagos and some western states, including bank robberies in Kwara State, northcentral Nigeria.

The police said they are still on the trail of other fleeing members of the gang.
