A businessman, Babatunde Nollah, based in the Nigerian commercial capital of Lagos, on Wednesday appeared before a Shomolu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos charged with assault on a tenant in his father’s house.

Nollah, 46, was alleged to have attacked the tenant, Mr Olaniyi Olayinka, at their 45, Osipitan St., Bariga residence on Dec. 25, 2013.

The police prosecutor, ASP Akinlabi Adegoke, told the court that the accused attacked Olayinka with a broken bottle.

Adegoke alleged that the incident took place at about 9 a.m. after the accused had pulled down the door of Olayinka’s room in the compound.

He alleged that the accused “acted on the premise of a lingering disagreement between him and the tenant”.

He told the court that the offences of assault and breach of public peace, which the accused was facing, contravened the Criminal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs Bola Osunsanmi, granted him bail for N100,000 with two sureties.

She adjourned the case to Jan. 22.
