Driver Attacks Neighbour’s Wife With Cutlass

A Lagos-based driver, David Disu, has been arrested and charged before Ijeshatedo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly attacking his neighbour’s wife with a cutlass at 3, Ali Ijaiye Street, off Oseni Road, Lawanson, Surulere, Lagos State, western Nigeria, where both families reside.

The 40-year old Disu allegedly admitted to the police that he beat the victim, Mrs Chinyere Pius, to please his wife, but denied attacking her with cutlass.

Disu reportedly told the police that he was instigated by his wife against the victim because she always complained to him that Chinyere abused her anytime he went to work.

The driver was said to have promised his wife to address the issue with Chinyere when she kept complaining to him that he did not do anything to protect her from their neighbour.

Sources said when Disu confronted Chinyere, an argument ensued between them which resulted in a fight. Disu reportedly brought out a cutlass and cut Chinyere on her right leg which caused her serious injury.

She was rushed to a hospital and Disu was arrested when the matter was reported to the police at Itire Division.

At the station, the driver reportedly admitted beating the woman but denied attacking her with cutlass. Chinyere in her statement alleged that during the fight Disu threatened to cut her leg with cutlass to teach her a lesson and he went ahead to cut her with cutlass.

She told the police that Disu beat her up without confirming what his wife told him about her.

After investigation, Disu was charged to court for assault occasioning harm under the Criminal Code Law of Lagos State of Nigeria. When he was arraigned, he pleaded not guilty.

The presiding magistrate, Mrs A.O. Gbajumo granted him bail in the sum of N50,000 with two sureties in like sum.The matter was adjourned for hearing.
