160,000 Policemen receiving training for 2015 polls

Nigeria’s police boss, Mohammed Dikko Abubakar on Tuesday said the Police are ready to ensure a hitch-free governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun States later this year and in the 2015 general elections, according to statement by Force headquarters spokesman, CSP Frank Mba.

Mba said Abubakar gave this assurance when the US Ambassador, Mr. James Entwistle paid him a courtesy visit at the FHQ, Abuja, Tuesday.

Mba said that no fewer than 160,000 police personnel are receiving relevant training on election duties in different Police training institutions across the country in preparation for these elections.

The Police Officers are receiving specialized training on electoral laws, election security, crowd control skills, anti-riot operations, covert intelligence operations and general principles of democratic policing.

The US Ambassador however promised increased collaboration with the Nigeria Police Force in the area of capacity building and other security related matters, promising that the US Government is committed to the growth and success of Nigeria’s democracy and economy.
