Jonathan to attend Bafarawa's defection to PDP

President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to formally receive former governor of Sokoto state, Attahiru Bafarawa to the Peoples Democratic Party on Saturday.

Bafarawa was a former member of the opposition All Progressives Congress.

His formal defection will take place on Saturday 8 February in Sokoto.

News of Jonathan’s visit was contained in a statement issued by the Secretary of the Publicity Committee set up for the visit, Alhaji Yusuf Dingyadi and made available to newsmen in Sokoto on Thursday.

It said that the ceremony is expected to take place at the Shehu Kangiwa Square, Sokoto.

It added that those expected at the event include the Chairman of the party’s Board of Trustees, Chief Tony Anenih; its National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu and PDP Governors, among others.

“The President will also inspect the PDP state office and later meet with its elders in the state, before returning to Abuja,” the statement further added.

Aliyu Wammako, a former member of the PDP is the governor of the state. He is now a member of the APC.
