3 persons charged with theft of 330 phones

Three men were on Friday docked at an Ejigbo Magistrates’ Court, Lagos for allegedly burgling three shops and carting away 330 units of mobile phones valued at N1.2 million.

The accused, Olawale Olaseinde, 19, Damilare Shobayo, 22, and Sodiq Olaoluwa, 23, all residents of Idimu area of Lagos, southwest Nigeria, were arraigned on a three-count -charge of conspiracy, burglary and stealing.

According to the prosecutor, ASP Nicholas Atumonye, the accused committed the offence on 2 February, at about 4.00 a.m., at Idimu, a suburb of Lagos.

Atumonye alleged that the accused conspired to break the shops of three traders; Bukola Ayeni, Tawa Keshinro and Karimu Omotosho.

The prosecutor said that the accused carted away 330 units of phones worth N1.2 million, property of the traders.

He said the offences contravened Sections 285, 305 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011, which stipulate a seven year prison term.

However, the three accused persons pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs M. B. Folami, granted them bail in the sum of N500, 000 each, with two sureties each in like sum.

Folami adjourned the case till 10 February for definite trial.
