Kano boosts salary of health workers

The Kano State Government has approved seven per cent increase in the Consolidated Health Salary Structure (CONHESS) of health workers in the state with effect from February 2014, Head of Service, Alhaji Umar Minjibir, said.

A statement by Alhaji Mustapha Fagge, the public relations officer, said Minjibir announced the increase while signing an agreement between the state government and the Joint Health Sector Unions (JOHESU) on Friday in Kano.

He noted that the increase would raise the percentage increase in the salary of such workers from 87 per cent to 94 per cent in the implementation of CONHESS.

He assured the people that the state government would continue to provide more funds for the provision of infrastructure to health institutions within the state’s limited resources.

He added that “two weeks ago, the state government approved 100 per cent implementation of CONPCASS and CONTEDISS salary structures for academic and non-academic staff of tertiary institutions in the state.

“This is a clear indication of the government’s commitment to develop the health sector.’’

In his remarks, the Chairman of JOHESU, Alhaji Ahmed Gana, gave the assurance that health workers in the state would reciprocate the gesture through rededication to duties.

He said the union decided to embrace dialogue in order to ensure amicable resolution of the crisis between it and government instead of embarking on strike.
