2 die in another auto-crash in Lagos

Two persons have been confirmed dead as a Sports Utility Van, SUV, crashed into a staff bus, with the two vehicles plunging into a deep canal at Pleasure area of Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

P.M. NEWS gathered that the Nissan Pathfinder FKJ 516 AL had a burst tyre and ran into the staff bus around Pleasure Bus Stop inward Abule Egba, pushing both vehicles into the canal.

The incident happened around 10.00 pm on Saturday.

Rescue officials confirmed the two occupants of the Pathfinder dead while three other people were said to have sustained injuries.

It was gathered that the SUV in intense speed suddenly had a burst tyre and rammed into the staff bus in front of it pushing bus and itself into the deep canal on Saturday night.

Spokesperson, Lagos State Emergency Management Authority, LASEMA, Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu told P.M. NEWS that two occupants of the Pathfinder died in the accident, saying that LASEMA officials were prompt in arriving the scene.

Oke-Osanyintolu, General Manager, LASEMA said the incident occurred about 10pm and that the impact of the accident was much which forced the two vehicles into the drainage channel.

According to him, the bodies of the two victims, whose identity could not be ascertained were handed over to the Police at Elere Police Station and were later taken to the mortuary.

Oke-Osanyintolu added that the Pathfinder had been retrieved from the canal while efforts were on to remove the staff bus.

“We were very prompt in arriving at the scene when the accident occurred and we were able to recover the bodies and hand them over to the police,” he said.

He appealed to motorists to observe safety rules on the road and desist from over-speeding.
