Beggar Caught Stealing School Girl

A beggar caught stealing a 5-year old girl, Aishat Hassan, in a school compound in Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, has been charged to court.
The Kano State-born man, Aminu Hamisu, who begs for alms at Agege area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria, was charged with abduction and stealing before the Ebule Egba Magistrate’s Court, sitting in Lagos.
It was alleged that Hamisu went to Olusanya Primary School, Agege, to steal Aishat, pretending that she was his daughter.
While he was escaping with the girl, a resident who knew Hamisu as a popular beggar in Agege, challenged him.
Hamisu could not explain his relationship with the girl and attempted to escape without the girl. But the residents of the area pursued him.
When the beggar was eventually caught, the residents handed him over to the police in the area.
At the police station, Hamisu reportedly confessed that he stole the girl but refused to revealwhat he wanted to do with her.
When the suspect was charged to court, he pleaded not guilty.
The presiding magistrate, Mr T.A. Elias, granted him bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Hamisu was remanded in Kirikiri Prisons in Lagos pending when he would fulfill his bail condition.
The matter was adjourned till 15 March, 2014.
