The Lagos State House of Assembly, western Nigeria on Wednesday held a special session where members confirmed the appointment of Mrs. Modupe Akinwolemiwa as Chairman of the Lagos State Audit Service Commission and Olalekan Lasisi and Segun Kenneth Odusanya as members.

The House also screened nominees for the Public Procurement Agency, PPA, of the state and confirmed Mr. Adebisi Adebusoye and Mrs. Omotayo Lateefat Eseoma as members.

The appointment of Mr. Wale Tony Eletu into the agency was deferred till when he would furnish the House with the details of his academic qualifications just as the confirmation of the appointment of Messrs Olusola Adeosun and Nasir Adisa into the commission was also deferred by the House.

Meanwhile, the Speaker of the House, Adeyemi Ikuforiji, has said that Nigeria has a lot to learn from China in order to make progress like the latter.

Ikuforiji stated this on Wednesday when he received the new Consular General of the Republic of China to Nigeria, Liu Kan.

“I express gratitude to the government and all other Chinese investors in Nigeria. We need to continue to encourage local content and transfer of technology.

“That is the only way the cordial relationship will be mutually beneficial.

“We can’t over emphasise the need for deep relationship between China and Nigeria. The people of China are very traditional and despite the rapid transformation technologically, the country still respects elders. In Nigeria, the young are expected to respect the old as well,” he noted.

Responding, the Consular-General said he was satisfied being in Nigeria saying his last two months in office has been encouraging.

Kan, while promising to consolidate on the achievements of his predecessor, said: “we are pleased to come to Nigeria for investment; to create jobs for the local community and that would facilitate Chinese investment in the country.”
