In the last two months, Nigeria’s Aruna Quadri has topped the ranking of the Portuguese Table Tennis Association following his efforts that aid his team – GD Toledos to top the league table.

From the January and February rating released by the European nation, the 2011 All Africa Games bronze medalist remained in the number one

spot of the ranking.  With 177 points ahead of homeboy – Diogo Chen, Quadri, who has also been listed in the Nigeria’s 10-man team to next month’s World Championships in Japan, has been unbeaten this season, while GD Toledos has not dropped point this year.

From the 13 matches played so far, Quadri has guided the team to record 100 per cent win with 52 points ahead of GD Juncal, which has 51 points from 16 matches. With three outstanding matches, GD Toledos is hoping to retain the. title this year having won the Portuguese Cup recently.

Also Quadri’s compatriots – Seun Ajetunmobi and Bode Abiodun made the top 10 in the rating with Ajetunmobi ranked fourth with 135 points, while Abiodun amassing 74 points to be ranked eighth in the February rating.

Following his performance at the 2014 ITTF World Tours in Kuwait and Qatar, Quadri is one of the biggest movers in the latest International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF) having moved from 237 in the world to 193.

On his possible plans to change base, he said: “According to the new rules released by Portugal Table Tennis Federation, it is now possible for me to feature in two leagues across Europe, which means I will keep improving by playing tougher matches in another league either in France or Sweden or any European nation to get second club for next season.

“Playing in two leagues means I will be playing with different types of players weekly and it will improve my game. I am so happy for what I have achieved in Portugal.”
