Nwachukwu leads South East delegates to confab
Governors of the South East Zone of Nigeria have appointed retired Major General Ike Nwachukwu as the Chairman of their delegates to the National Conference.
The new Chairman of the South East Governors Forum, Gov. Theodore Orji of Abia, announced this in Enugu on at the end of the meeting of the delegates from the zone.
He said that the governors had also appointed Monsignor Obiora Ike of the Catholic Church as deputy to Nwachukwu at the conference, which will be inaugurated on Monday, 17 March, a week later than was initially planned.
Orji said that each state of the zone had also nominated a leader to champion its affairs at the conference.
He disclosed that Nwachukwu was nominated from Abia; Dr Dozie Ikedife, Anambra; former Governor, Dr Sam Egwu, for Ebonyi; former Senate President Ken Nnamani, Enugu; and Dr Ezekiel Izuogu, Imo.
“There shall be a secretariat for the South East delegates, to be headed by Prof. George Obiozo. Each of the South East states shall nominate two persons to serve at the secretariat.
“The five South East states shall bear the cost of running the secretariat,’’ Orji said.
The new chairman said that the governors also advised the delegates to work together as a group, in the overall interest of the nation.
