Council chairman charged with certificate forgery

The Nigerian Police on Monday dragged the Chairman, Soba Local Government in Kaduna State to a Magistrates’ Court for certificate forgery. Police Prosecutor ASP Samuel Malumi sought the permission of the Court to proceed with the case.

Kawu Ibrahim Yakasai is accused of forging WAEC results purportedly issued by Barewa College, Zaria in his name.

Counsel to the accused, Habib, objected to the proceedings, arguing that it would be an abuse of court process to entertain the case.

He asked the court to adjourn the case to enable the defence to prepare.

The Magistrate, Auwalu Aliyu did not take the plea of the accused and adjourned the case till April 7, for mention.

Yakasai had in Nov. 2012 appeared before the Daura Road Magistrates’ Court for forgery.

The case, instituted by Mustapha Musa and Ubale Telan-Matasa was adjourned three times before the Kaduna State Government took over and terminated the case.

The then state Deputy Director of Public Prosecution, Mr Gamali Yakore had told the court that the government was interested in settling the matter out of court in line with Section 211 sub section 1 and 2 of the 1999 Constitution.
