Banker seeks divorce over battery of mum by wife
A banker, on Tuesday prayed an Igando Customary Court in Lagos to dissolve his marriage over alleged battery of his mother by his wife.
Forty-two-year-old Ayuda Abila said that his wife of 10 years,Tina, always beat his mother without a genuine reason.
“My wife has turned my mother into a punching bag, alleging that she is a witch,” he said.
He submitted that Tina once arrested his mother, claiming that she intended to poison her food.
“She does not want to see any of my relatives; anytime they come around, it is war,” he said.
The petitioner described his wife as a troublemaker, who regularly fought on the streets.
“Whenever she is fighting, people come to tell me that my wife is fighting again. Whenever I go there, she will transfer the aggression to me by fighting and embarrassing me in public,” he said.
He told the court that he was fed up with the union.
“I cannot cope with her constant beating and harassment of my mother and her hostility to my siblings,” he said.
Responding, 35-year-old Tina, told the court that she never beat her mother-in-law. She said that it was her mother-in-law that beat her.
The fashion designer and mother of two said that her husband did not allow her to go and see her parents.
She said that he wanted her to be indoors, but failed to meet her needs.
Tina urged the court not to dissolve the marriage, saying that she still loved her husband.
The Court President, Mr R.I. Adeyeri, adjourned the case till March 26 for further hearing
