Nasarawa council polls: Voters protest in Doma
Some voters in Doma Local Government Area of Nasarawa State on Saturday staged a peaceful protest against the non-availability of result sheets at the polling units.
News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reported that voters in Kofan Maduachi and Kofan Dantshoho polling units in Maudauchi ward, insisted that they would not vote until the result sheets were provided.
Umar Omadefu, the Presiding Officer at Kofan Madauchi polling unit told NAN that he was still waiting for his supervisor to bring the result sheets as at 12 noon.
“As you can see the voters have been waiting since morning but we cannot start unless all the materials are ready,” Omadefu said.
However, at the Angwan Akubi polling unit in of Sabon-geri ward, voters were seen on queues being accredited in an orderly manner.
The Presiding Officer, Rabiu Attah, said all materials for the election had arrived at the polling unit as at 10 a.m., adding that voting would commence at 1:30 p.m.
NAN reports that voters turn out in the area was impressive as women and youth turned up in large numbers waiting to be accredited as at time of filing this report.
NAN also reports that there was heavy security presence as Armoured Personnel carriers were seen on patrol.
Meanwhile, Chairman of NASIEC, Dr Abdullahi Moddibo, could not be reached, as at time of filling this report, to explain the non-availability of result sheets in some polling units.
