General Abubakar sues for peace
A former Nigerian Head of State, Gen. Abdulsalami Abubakar, on Thursday appealed to his compatriots to embrace and give peace a chance as the 2015 general election approaches.
Abubakar made the appeal at the inauguration of the Abdulsalami Abubakar General Hospital, Gulu in Lapai Local Government Area of Niger state. The hospital was built by the state government.
According to him, without peace the nation cannot experience any meaningful development and progress.
He urged Nigerians to play active roles in ensuring peace and harmony in the country.
“As we approach 2015, I want to appeal to all Nigerians to play our roles actively in maintaining peace and harmony in our country.
“We need to give peace a chance because without peace, there will be no Nigeria and without peace, we cannot use the infrastructures the government is putting in place for us,’’ he said.
He commended the Niger State Government for building institutions and infrastructures for the good of the people.
“I am happy that the Niger State government has found it worthwhile to construct this hospital and name it after me. I am honoured with this humanitarian magnitude.
“It is of particular significance as we refocus and restrategise toward building institutions and infrastructures for the good of the people, it is my prayers that this approach in the health sector is sustained.’’
Abubakar said government was about delivering quality health, education, roads and other things that would benefit the people, stressing that hospital projects were remarkable.
“Humanitarian infrastructure is recognised all over the world even by international organisations.’’
He called on the people of Gulu and Lapai to ensure that that they own, cherish and take good care of the facility.
