Lagos state hosts summit for women empowerment

As part of the activities marking the year 2014 international Women’s Day celebration, the Lagos State Government through its Ministry of Women Affairs and Poverty Alleviation will on Thursday, 3rd April, mobilize thousands of women in the State to a summit where various speakers will address them on positive change and women empowerment.

In a statement signed by the Special Assistant on media to the Lagos State Deputy Governor, Tunde Abatan, he stated that the essence of the one day event is to further mobilize and sensitize women for positive change and encourage them to contribute their quota to the socio economic development of the state and Nigeria in general.

Abatan said this year’s women’s day celebration with the Theme: ‘Equality for Women, Progress for all’ will provide avenue for women to showcase their talents while they will be enlightened on various entrepreneurship opportunities that can provide them with means of livelihood and promote the growth of the economy.

International Women’s day is a day set aside by the United Nations to celebrate women the world over and Lagos state is joining the rest of the world as usual to celebrate women and gather them together and speak with one voice about issues bothering on their developments.

The Governor of Lagos State, Mr Babatunde Fashola (SAN) will be the Special Guest of Honour and will lead other top dignitaries to celebrate the women while his deputy, Mrs Adejoke Orelope- Adefulire who also oversees the Ministry of Women Affairs and poverty Alleviation will the Chief Host.

The event holds at the Police College grounds, Ikeja and it will commence from 10.00am.
