APC Ward Congress marred by logistics problems

The ward congresses held today by the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ogun state was marred by logistic challenges in the 236 wards.

Officials sent to conduct the poll arrived late, leading to late commencement of voting for the executive positions. However, voting took place in Ijebu-Ode, Ijebu-Igbo, Ago-Iwoye, Ijebu-Ife, Ijebu-Imushin, Itele and some towns in Ijebu North, Ijebu East, Ijebu North-East and Odogbolu local government areas.

Many of the executives however emerged through affirmation and adoption which was agreed upon by Party leaders.

Officials of Independent National Electoral Commission and security agencies such as the Police, NSCDC, OP Mesa and the State Security Service, SSS were among those who monitored the Congress.

Former governor and the National leader of the party, Aremo Olusegun Osoba voted at Igbore/Oba ward 13 in Abeokuta South local government area where fighting broke out but was quelled by Osoba and the governor, Senator Ibikunle Amosun.

Amosun appealed to party members to exercise patience, urging them to abide with the laid down rules and regulations of the congress. He addressed them at the Methodist Nursery and Primary school,Igbore. “I want to assure you all that there won’t be any crisis. We are one big family and any shortcomings you may notice now will be addressed.

“I have been moving around since 5:00pm yesterday up until 9:00am this morning, making sure that all went well. So, when I received a distress call that something was happening here, I had to rush down.

“I did not even use my wristwatch because I was told that our leader, Baba Osoba is there. You can see me now with him, we have discussed it and everything has been resolved. APC cannot afford not to get it right from here, any anomalies will be sorted out”, he stated.

PM News learnt that the names of elected executives in all the 236 wards are expected to be released later tomorrow but could be delayed due to the inconsistent pattern with which the election was conducted. parallel conduct of the elections for party leaders to meet
for harmonisation.
