Nigerians have been advised to carry out regular medical examinations in order to keep their body in a good shape.

Giving this advice yesterday at a free medical programme organised by Isalu Hospitals Limited, Lagos, to mark the World Health Day, the Clients Services Manager of the hospital, Oladipupo Ganiyu, urged Nigerians to be conscious of their health so as to prevent a sudden breakdown.

To mark the day, the hospital organised a lecture and free medical checkup for residents of Ogba and environs.

“This programme is our own little way of giving back to the environment where we operate. We want to raise awareness about healthcare and let people realise the importance of looking after their health. Most people don’t know that health is important and they need to go for regular medical checks to ascertain their health status,” Ganiyu stated while explaining the objectives of the free medical programme.

Some have high blood pressure and they are just walking about without a care. That is why you find reports of people having cardiac arrest. They slump and die and people start wondering what could have gone wrong. Many people have died as a result of indifference to their health and we are saying this should not be so. People should have time for their health. There is the need for the people to give their health priority.

“There was a man who has been living with diabetes for the past 20 years and he didn’t know. We detected it and advised him accordingly.

“We also observed that many people are not well informed about their health. Through programmes like this they can get to know their health challenges and receive help. It costs them nothing. All they need to do is to walk into any hospital and have themselves examined.

“People should endeavour to check their blood pressure, sugar level and others regularly to avoid system collapse. By doing these, they are helping to prevent sudden death.

“We also want to advise other hospitals to offer free medical programmes to give the people opportunity to know their health,” he stated.
