The youth arm of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo, a popular Igbo socio-cultural organisation, has asked delegates to the on-going National Conference from the Southeast not to return home if they failed to make positive contributions to uplift the area and its people.

The group lamented that a lot of the delegates of Igbo extraction preferred to adopt a sit-down-look posture while other delegates were making contributions to advance their regions.

In a statementy signed by Mazi Okechukwu Isiguzoro, its leader, the group said following its first plenary session held at the Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo National Secretariat, Enugu, it resolved that the delegates from the region were not doing enough.

“We frowned at the lukewarm approach of the Igbo delegates to the on-going National Conference; where their near ineptitude is portraying the Igbo nation as one that lacks cohesion and visionary leaders when issues that border on the restructuring of the Nigerian federation are tabled.

“We hereby call on the Igbo delegates to as a matter of urgency to revisit the various Igbo pre-confab position documents and push for those positions as enunciated.

“Consequently, the Igbo delegates should not bother coming back to Ala-Igbo, if they squander this golden opportunity of correcting the structural imbalances inherent in the present Nigerian polity,” the group warned.

It also disclosed that the inauguration of the newly elected National Executive Committee, NEC, of Ohanaeze Ndi-Igbo Youth Wing has been fixed for Thursday, 5 June, 2014 in Enugu.
