The Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) says it will soon establish a Maritime Safety Centre to improve marine services.

The Managing Director of NPA, Malam Habib Abdullahi, made this known to NAN on Thursday in Apapa, Lagos.

Abdullahi said that the centre would be equipped with navigation simulator to make it effective.

He said the simulator would provide NPA pilots and tug-masters with regular refresher training in line with International Maritime Organisation’s requirements.

He explained that the first phase of work will begin with the installation of a Full Bridge Navigation Simulator, adding that once it becomes operational, work would continue with the phased development of the Centre to fully cover other aspects of continuous training for NPA’s marine officers.

The project is managed by the Business Development and Joint Venture Division of the Authority in partnership with the Authority’s joint venture partners.
