The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) on Friday in Abuja, decried the use of a section of the media to attack and discredit its National Chairman, Alhaji Adamu Mu’azu.

Olisa Metuh, National Publicity Secretary of the party said in a statement that such publication was being sponsored to cause disaffection amongst the party leadership.

He added that it was ultimately to destabilise the party and the country ahead of the 2015 general elections.

According to him, one of such unprovoked attacks has already appeared in the form of a fictitious article in the edition of the one national dailies.

Metuh reiterated that Mu’azu was not an acting National Chairman neither was he serving in acting capacity as published in the said daily.

“Mu’azu remains an authentic substantive National Chairman of the PDP as his appointment in this capacity met the requirements of the PDP constitution,” he said.

He, therefore, urged members and supporters of the party as well as Nigerians to disregard the publication and others that might follow.

Metuh assured that the PDP national chairman enjoyed the support of the party’s leaders and members at all levels and would not be detracted or distracted by such ill-intentioned publication.

“Those seeking to sow seeds of discord in our party must understand that they have already failed as the PDP has emerged from its challenges stronger and more united.”

The party’s national publicity secretary added that the PDP shall not in any way be taken off-course by “such evil machinations”.

He said that PDP under Mu’azu, was completely on course and shall remain the pre-eminent party wholly committed to the national interest and welfare of Nigerians.

He said this was in line with the party`s manifesto and the vision of its founding fathers.

“Ordinarily, we would have ignored the said publication, but for the benefit of our teeming supporters and members, we have decided to respond.’’

Metuh said the response was necessary because those behind the fabrication had also commissioned paid agents to launch further attacks on the person and office of the PDP national chairman.

He stressed that the claims made in the said article were totally false, maliciously and sponsored by disgruntled elements.

According to him, such elements have not been happy with the stability and wide-spread popularity PDP continued to enjoy since Mu’azu emerged as its national chairman.

He stressed that Mu’azu had maintained very healthy and robust working relationship with party leaders at all levels across the country.

According to him, this has resulted in his impressive performance in the last three months which has earned him the name “the game changer”.

He said that since Mu’azu assumed office, he had continued to apply his wealth of experience, connections and goodwill among Nigerians to stabilise and reposition the party to the admiration of its leaders and members.

Metuh added that the chairman had continued to run an all-inclusive administration, restored the confidence of party members in the leadership.

“Mu’azu-led administration has regained the trust of Nigerians in PDP as the only vehicle to deliver democracy dividends to them.”

He said that the development would not have been possible without Mu’azu’s good working relationship with the president, PDP governors and party members.

“The daily expansion of the PDP support base, return of defected members, influx of influential Nigerians from other parties” testified to the leadership quality of the national chairman of the party.

He said the leadership style of the national chairman had also attracted rousing support being witnessed at the nationwide unity rallies.

Metuh said that Mu’azu had ensured that the PDP remained a well structured organiasation with well established departments where laid down administrative rules and regulations were strictly adhered to.

He said this had “resulted in unprecedented transparency and higher productivity in the party”.
