On Thursday 8 May, the Ijebu people from six local council areas of Ogun state, converged in Ijebu-Ode to pay homage to Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, the Awujale of Ijebuland, as part of the weeklong ceremony to mark Nigeria’s longest reigning monarch’s birthday. Oba Adetona who had reigned on the throne for more than 54 years, clocked 80 on Saturday 10 May.
On the Thursday event, there were cultural displays as well, with the performance by members of Osugbo Confraternity standing out.
