Mrs Sarah Jibril, Special Adviser to the President on Ethics and Moral Values has said that plans are underway to produce a National Curriculum on Ethics and Mentorship.
Jibril told NAN that this would return Nigeria to its core values.
She described ethics as the cornerstone to the prevention of insecurity, misunderstanding and underdevelopment being suffered in the country.
The aide enjoined Nigerians to accept ethical behaviour and transformation attitude, to unite Nigeria, ensure cohesion and development while using cultural diplomacy.
“Our mandate is to strengthen the nation`s ethical values which I believe will improve the lives of our people in various ways.
“People who do not have good values do not behave well and have no regards for human lives.
“We must accept that the conscience of every human being is very important for family and society upkeep.
“When people have the values and ethics which represent righteousness, good character, it also means that the conscience will influence in one’s character in every ramification of his life,” she said.
She called on Nigerians to stamp out “official or systematic corruption” in all transactions.
She stressed the need to adopt improved strategies to transform the people’s attitudes, while strengthening the society’s ethics and values.
She advised that family units should play a unique role in the propagation of ethics and values in the society.
The special adviser urged Nigerians to continue to pray for the safe return of the Chibok girls who were abducted by Boko Haram insurgents in April.
“I urge every Nigerian to remain calm and trust that the Almighty God will intervene. The abduction of these girls is barbaric and highly unethical.
“These children are innocent children, therefore, God will look at the innocence of these children and answer our prayers.
“God will not forget Nigeria in time of troubles; I believe so because with God all things are possible,” she said.
