Gunmen Kidnap Lawmaker’s Father

Unidentified gunmen have reportedly kidnapped Pa Ogbewe, father of the Minority Whip of House of Representatives, Samson Osagie, at his residence at Urhokuosa, Uhunmwode Local Government Area of Edo, southern Nigeria.

The kidnap of the octogenarian by a six-member gang who allegedly operated in a golf car at about 7 p.m. on Sunday,  is the second time in the last three years that he will be taken hostage.

According to a close aide of the Minority Whip, the abduction came a few hours after some youths in Urhokuosa community allegedly threatened mayhem against the lawmaker and his family due to the deregistration of community development association by the state government.

The aide who pleaded anonymity said the youths were stopped from illegaly selling people’s land in the community.

“The lawmaker who has been assisting in developing the community has been urging the youths to embrace peace to avert communal crisis in Urhokuosa,” he stated.

He further disclosed that the kidnappers were yet to contact the family and pleaded with the police and other security agencies to prevail on the kidnappers to release the octogenarian unconditionally.

Edo State Police Command spokesman, Ahwara Ejiroro, said the command was yet to be informed about the abduction.
