Afolayan Holds Private Screening Of ‘October 1’

Kunle Afolayan’s Golden Effect Pictures in partnership with Nigerian arts promoter, Terra Kulture on Saturday 17 May played host to heavyweights in Nigerian entertainment, business, government and the diplomatic communities at the private screening of his latest flick, October 1.

Held at the Intercontinental Hotel, Victoria Island, Lagos, P.M.NEWS Showbiz Trends learnt, the exclusive event was to pitch private screening to corporate organisations and individuals as well as garner sponsorship for the major local and international premieres coming up later in the year.

October 1, according to Kunle Afolayan, is a thought-provoking movie that isn’t solely about entertaining viewers but serves to communicate important national messages.

The new movie has an exceptional cast led by Afolayan and other renowned actors such as Sadiq Daba, Kenneth Okonkwo, Fabian Adeoye Lojede, Demola Adedoyin, David Baile, Kayode Olaiya, Kehinde Bankole, Nick Phys and topmost fashion designer, Deola Sagoe, who played the role of Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti,

Set in September 1960, against the backdrop of the impending national independence, a northern Nigerian police detective, Dan Waziri was urgently dispatched by the colonial government to the western town of Akote to solve a series of female murders that had gripped the local community in fear.

More killings occurred as Waziri got into the town, leading to the climatic end where the life of the popular female teacher, Tawa is held in balance. Waziri races to save Tawa, capture the killer and solve the crime before the British flag is lowered and the Nigerian flag raised on Independence Day, October 1.

The movie written by Tunde Babalola and directed by Afolayan will be premiering in major cinemas across Nigeria soon.
