Bashir Lawal, Chairman of Accord Party in Oyo State, says former governor of the state, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, remains the party’s flagbearer in the 2015 governorship election in the state.

Lawal said this in Ibadan while receiving executive members of the Oyo State Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ).

“We have no governorship aspirant but a governorship candidate in the person of Sen. Rashidi Ladoja,” he said.

He bemoaned the rate at which politicians defected from one party to the other, hinging it on lack of political will to implement the nation’s constitution.

“Lack of political will on the part of our politicians to faithfully implement the country’s constitution is at the heart of the nation’s political problems.

“With the existence of such will, it will be easier to order defectors to vacate their seats,” he said.

Lawal expressed optimism that the party would take over government from the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state in 2015.

“The APC was founded on a sandy foundation and it is presently crumbling. They won the election in 2011 through the support of various strange groups.

“Now, majority of these strange fellows have been returning to their parties, some to PDP, some to Labour Party and we are also welcoming others into our party,” he said.

The party’s publicity secretary, Dr Nureni Adeniran, commended members of the chapel for their accurate reportage of political events in the state.

He urged the correspondents to sustain their fairness in reportage of events as the 2015 elections approaches.
